Prosecutors near Buenos Aires are said to be investigating Dr. Leopoldo Luque after Maradona's daughters reportedly expressed concerns about how their father was being treated for his heart condition in Tigre, as per AFP.
Luque is said to have had both his home and his office raided by authorities on Sunday as prosecutors investigate whether or not he showed negligence in dealing with the former Napoli and FC Barcelona forward.
Late on Sunday, Maradona's doctor gave an emotional television interview in which he said he is not worried about the investigation as he knows he did nothing wrong.
"You want to know what I am responsible for?" Luque asked, according to The National News.
"For having loved him, for having taken care of him, for having extended his life, for having improved it to the end.
"He should have gone to a rehabilitation centre. He didn't want to. I am the person who has been taking care of him. I'm proud of everything I've done. I have nothing to hide. I am at the disposal of justice."
Maradona suffered a fatal heart attack on 25 November at the age of 60, and leaves behind a legacy the football fraternity will always fondly remember.
The 1986 FIFA World Cup winner was buried in Argentina on Thursday, with a source saying, "Our investigations are ongoing, we are talking to witnesses including members of the family."
According to a family member, who chose to remain anonymous: "The clinic had recommended that he go elsewhere to be hospitalised, but the family decided otherwise. His daughters signed for him to be discharged from the hospital."
In the same abovementioned interview, Luque also said that there should have been an ambulance parked outside of Maradona's house – it is believed it took about 30 minutes for one to arrive following his heart attack.
A preliminary autopsy established that Maradona passed away in his sleep of "acute lung oedema and chronic heart failure".
