Result: Real Madrid 3-1 AC Milan
Date: 11 August 2018
Venue: Santiago Bernabéu
Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale were among the goals as Real Madrid defeated AC Milan 3-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday evening.
Los Blancos went ahead as early as the second minute when Dani Carvajal combined with Bale before picking out Benzema, who headed home at the far post.
Real's joy was short-lived though, as Milan leveled matters in the fourth minute through new signing Gonzalo Higuain, who is a former Los Blancos player.
Milan went close to pulling ahead after 27 minutes through Giacomo Bonaventura, who was denied by a save from Keylor Navas.
The hosts squandered a chance of their own 10 minutes later as Marcelo picked out Casemiro in the box, with the latter falling to hit the target.
Real did restore their lead on the stroke of halftime thanks a close range finish from Bale.
Bonaventura was proving to be a real threat in the opening stages of the second as he had a couple efforts at goal in the opening 10 minutes.
Midway through the second half, Milan opted for a double change as Carlos Bacca and Jose Mauri replaced Higuain and Lucas Biglia.
Los Blancos responded with a few changes of their own with 13 minutes remaining, as the likes of Vinicius Junior, Borja Mayoral, Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez were introduced.
Modric went close to extending Real's lead in the 87th minute with an effort from distance that was palmed away by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
However, the third goal arrived in the first minutes of time added on, with Mayoral finishing from close range to wrap up the win.
