Beijing Guoan have finally confirmed the arrival of former Villarreal striker Cedric Bakambu.

The Democratic Republic of Congo striker joined the Super League side for an undisclosed fee, believed to be £65.5 million, as reported by the BBC.

Bakambu has been training with Guoan since January, but the club tried to find a loophole in the rules in order to avoid paying a 100% "luxury tax", which was introduced last year, after activating the player's £35.5 million (R580 million) release clause.

The club had reportedly claimed they would not need to pay the massive tax amount because they signed Bakambu as a free agent, stating that the African paid his own buyout clause.

However, the Chinese authorities did not accept Guaon's reasoning, but did reduce the payable tax amount by about £6 million (R98 million), according to the BBC.

Overall, Bakambu is believed to have cost the club a whopping £65.5 million, breaking the record for an African player set by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's £56 million (R914 million) January move from Borussia Dortmund to Arsenal.

Do you think the new "luxury tax" will stop the massive Chinese spending we have seen in recent seasons? Have your say in the comments section below.
