On Wednesday, Felix was announced as the winner of the 2019 edition of the Golden Boy award – an honour that is bestowed on the best player in Europe under the age of 21.
The 20-year-old claimed the award after emerging victorious from the voting polls held by award organisers Tuttosport, beating off competition from the likes of Jadon Sancho, Kai Havertz and 2018 winner Matthijs de Ligt.
In announcing the award, Tuttosport CEO Federico Vincenzoni stressed how Felix, who has been dubbed the "new Cristiano Ronaldo", has further enhanced the prestige of the Golden Boy title by winning the award.
"The total value of the last three Golden Boys, Mbappe, De Ligt and (Felix), is nearly 500 million euros, considering both the purchase prices and the revaluations generated," Vincenzoni said.
"The work that all the top clubs in Europe are doing to conquer the tag of the new Cristiano Ronaldo does nothing but reinforce the value of this award."
Felix was crowned after a stellar calendar year in which he excelled for Benfica before earning a €126 million (R2 billion) transfer to LaLiga giants Atletico Madrid.
He follows in the footsteps of some of football's most famous players, including the likes of Messi, Mbappe, Wayne Rooney and Paul Pogba.
Felix is also only the second player from Portugal to be named a Golden Boy, after former Benfica and Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches.
