Lionel Messi will be hoping to claim one of the few awards that has eluded him after being nominated for Fifa's The Best Puskas Award for a record-extending seventh time. The Argentine is one of 10 players who made the shortlist for the 2019 award, but Cristiano Ronaldo and 2018 winner Mohamed Salah are notable absentees.

FC Barcelona superstar Messi has been nominated for the Puskas Award for the seventh time since the award was established in 2009, but has only ever finished as a runner-up, in 2015. The 32-year-old is on this year's shortlist after scoring an audacious chip against Real Betis in March.

LaLiga's all-time record goalscorer is joined on the 10-man shortlist by 2013 winner Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose "spinning heel-kick" for LA Galaxy against Toronto puts him among this year's favourites. The former Sweden international is making his fourth appearance among the Puskas nominees, having previously featured in 2011 and 2015 as well.
Andros Townsend is the Premier League's only representative, and he is nominated after scoring a sublime volley from outside of the box against eventual 2018/19 league champions Manchester City.
