2018 World Cup Qualifier
Result: Italy 2-0 Albania
Date: 24 March 2017
Venue: Stadio Renzo Barbera
Goals from Daniele De Rossi and Ciro Immobile helped Italy record a 2-0 win over Albania in their 2018 World Cup qualifier.
The hosts were awarded a penalty after 10 minutes when Antonio Candreva was brought down by Roshi. De Rossi stepped up and converted the spot-kick, 1-0.
Buffon was called into action after 23 minutes, as Roshi skipped by Andrea Barzagli but saw his volley from the edge of the box saved by the veteran shot-stopper at the near post.
Andrea Belotti nearly doubled the Azzurri's lead in the 27th minute, but his close range glancing header sailed wide of the upright.
The hosts continued to push for a second goal as the second half went on as the likes of De Rossi and Belotti went close.
Nonetheless, the score remained 1-0 to the Italians as the sides went into the break.
The clash was suspended after 57 minutes as the pitch had been covered in smoke, after the Albanian fans had set off a number of flares.
Once the clash resumed, Italy should have doubled their lead in the 65th minute through Candreva, but the winger failed to convert past Strakosha from close range.
The hosts eventually grabbed a second goal on 80 minutes as Ciro Immobile rose above his marker to head home Davide Zappacosta's cross.
Italy managed to see out the closing stages with relative ease to claim their third straight win in Group G.
