Croatia & Switzerland Clinch World Cup Spots
Switzerland 0-0 Northern Ireland (1-0 agg.)
Switzerland held on for a 1-0 aggregate victory over Northern Ireland as the teams played out a goalless draw at St. Jakob-Park.
There were chances at both ends and Northern Ireland went close to equalising late on. Jonny Evans saw his header cleared off the line by Ricardo Rodríguez in stoppage time.
However, Switzerland ultimately held on for the win, with Rodríguez’s controversial first leg penalty proving decisive.
Greece 0-0 Croatia (1-4 agg.)
Croatia clinched qualification through a 0-0 draw with Greece in Piraeus, which saw them win 4-1 on aggregate.
Greece saw more of the ball than their opponents, but were unable to capitalise on home soil.
As a result, Croatia qualified for their fifth World Cup in six attempts.
