Earlier this month, the 39-year-old midfielder, who last played for TS Galaxy, decided to hang up his boots after a stellar career in South Africa's top flight.
Letsholonyane joins quite a long list of recognisable names who decided to call it quits in this calendar year, with Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney doing so in January.
The ex-England striker is currently manager of Derby County in the English Championship, after initially joining the club in 2020 in a player/coach role.
Another former United player, Antonio Valencia, announced his retirement from the beautiful game this year, along with ex-Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, whose best days were spent in the heart of Los Blancos' midfield.
Khedira became a household name following his exploits for Germany at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, before securing an exciting move to the Spanish capital to join a club many deem the biggest in the world.
After five years in Madrid, the ex-Stuttgart man joined Juventus in Italy, for whom he made 145 appearances in six years. Khedira eventually left the Serie A giants earlier this year to sign for Hertha Berlin, and has since called time on his career.
