To meet our criteria, the midfielder must play in a central midfield role, which includes both defensive and attacking midfielders, although there are not many defensive-minded players among the top earners.
Arguably the most defensive of the lot is Atletico Madrid veteran Koke, who is believed to earn £280 000 (R6 million) every week in the Spanish capital, which sees him feature at fifth spot in the ranking.
Manchester City's departing superstar David Silva features for the time being as he still belongs to the Citizens, although the former Spain international might need to take a big pay cut at the club he joins next.
Manchester United and Liverpool target Thiago Alcantara is said to be paid a weekly wage of £205 000 (R4.4 billion) at Bayern Munich, which qualifies him for ninth spot.
Further up the list is Red Devils midfield maestro Paul Pogba, as is Juventus star Aaron Ramsey and Arsenal's Mesut Ozil, both of whom have not exactly covered themselves in glory this season.
While the Welshman has scored just four goals across all competitions since he accepted the Bianconeri's lucrative offer to join them in July 2019, Ozil has found the back of the net on just one occasion, a small contribution considering he is the Gunners' highest-paid player by some way.
