Although becoming a professional footballer is incredibly difficult, many players are almost just as impressive at playing other popular sports, such as former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.
The ex-Czech Republic international retired from football in 2019, but his passion for sport continued when he signed for professional ice hockey team Guildford Phoenix in England, and even put in a Man of the Match performance on his debut.
Cech said he was delighted to be playing ice hockey professionally after growing up with a passion for the game. Perhaps unsurprisingly, like his position in football, he played as the team's shot-stopper.
Argentina legend Gabriel Batistuta hung up his boots prematurely due to knee problems, but took up polo 11 years ago. In true Batistuta fashion, the former Fiorentina striker scored twice on his debut for the Loro Piana polo club.
In 2018, former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart returned to the game of cricket for his boyhood cricket team Shrewsbury after being omitted from England's most recent FIFA World Cup squad.
Hart was reportedly considered a top cricketer in his youth, with some believing he could even have gone professional had he not chosen to focus more on football.
As for former Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese, a long career in the beautiful game seemingly did not fulfil his need for adrenaline, leading to his decision to become a professional wrestler in the world-famous WWE.
