Uruguay go into their World Cup Group D game against Costa Rica at the Estádio Castelão, Fortaleza on Saturday with in-form striker Luis Suarez not making the starting line-up.
The Liverpool star and Premier League Player of the Year had surgery on his knee to repair damage to the meniscus but Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez has decided to play it safe, and start with Suarez on the bench.
Tabarez has named veteran striker Diego Forlan to partner PSG’s Edison Cavani in attack, with the former Manchester United player picking up the Golden Ball award in South Africa four years ago.
Costa Rica will be seen as underdogs in Goup D being placed with three previous World Cup winners.
Their task was already made that much harder when injuries forced key players such as full-back Heiner Mora as well as Real Salt Lake's Alvaro Saborio and Everton's Bryan Oviedo in all missing out on the tournament.
They will however have their experienced skipper Bryan Ruiz to count on and try and show the world they not just there to make up the numbers.
Uruguay XI: Muslera, Pereira, Lugano, Godin, Caceres, Gargano, Arevelo Rios, Stuani, Rodriguez, Forlan, Cavani
Costa Rica XI: Navas, Gonzalez, Duarte, Miller, Borges, Gamboa, Francis, Bolanos, Cubero, Campbell, Ruiz
