Chances were hard to come by, as Iran and Nigeria go into the halftime break with the scores tied at 0-0 in their Group F clash at Arena de Baixada.
The Super Eagles got off to a good start in the opening stages of the first half and took control right from the first minute.
Victor Moses and Ahmed Musa have been causing havoc down the flanks with their electric pace and skill, however, for all their possession , Stephen Keshi's men failed to create any meaningful openings.
The Super Eagles did have the ball in the back of the net in the seventh minute although their celebrations were short-lived, after John Obi Mikel was adjudged to have fouled Haghighi.
Iran, meanwhile, failed to get going early on and struggled with the physical presence of Mikel, Ogenyi Onazi and Ramon Azeez.
Although Carlos Queiroz's men did have the best chance of the half, as Reza Ghoochannejhad's glancing header forced Vincent Enyeama into a brilliant save from point blank range.
