Speaking after his side’s 2-1 win over England in a Group D, 2014 FIFA World Cup match on Thursday, Uruguay striker Luis Suarez said he dreamt of scoring a brace.
Goals in the 40th and 85th minute from the Liverpool man saw his country to their first win in the 2014 World Cup after losing their opening game 3-1 to Costa Rica.
“This is incredible,” said Suarez.
“I had told my teammates that I had a dream that I was going to score two goals in this match.”
The result sees Uruguay up to third in the group on three points, the same as Italy and Costa Rica ahead of their second Group D game on Friday.
Suarez highlighted the importance of the win and expects his side to produce the same performance against Italy in their last group match if they hope to qualify for the knockout stages.
“We had to win this match and we did it playing like Uruguay does in these kind of games,” said Suarez.
“Now we have to think about Italy, another very important rival.
“This victory is for all those people who said so many bad things about the team, it's for them.”
Suarez missed Uruguay’s opening World Cup match as he was still recovering from a knee injury and he has thanked his wife and children for their support in that difficult time.
“People laughed about my injury, I had a very difficult moment. I thank my wife and children for enduring me,” concluded the striker.
