Germany’s hat-trick hero, Thomas Muller, has insisted he did not want to get Portugal’s Pepe sent off.
Muller was involved in a confrontation with Pepe that saw the Real Madrid defender red-carded for a clash of heads.
However, Muller denied he had overplayed the clash of heads to convince Serbian referee, Milorad Mazic, to issue a red card.
"I felt Pepe's hit," he said after the match.
“I can't influence a red card, and I was not playing for a red card.”
Muller confirmed that he initially went down after feeling Pepe’s fist and that he didn’t want to provoke his opponent after the Portugal defender went head-to-head with him.
"I would like to see a replay on TV. I hope that it looked okay from my side. I sensed being hit with a fist and it really happened,” he added.
"What happened after that I cannot tell exactly. I hope it did not look stupid.
“I did not want to provoke anything but I don't know 100 per cent how I fared in this situation."
