Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero, has admitted he cannot again rush his return from injury otherwise he might risk his World Cup participation.
The Argentina international has not played a Premier League match since January, but had featured in three consecutive cup games in between. However, his comeback aggravated his injury problems and he has now again missed City’s last four games.
With City battling for the Premier League title, Aguero is desperate to return but admits he has learned his lesson and cannot rush back into playing again.
"With this recovery I am trying to do my best to be able to play again, but I cannot do it in a hurry," he told DirecTV.
"I do think to myself if something happens now, I will lose the rest of the Premier League season and the World Cup."
Aguero is a main pillar in his country’s World Cup squad and admits that Argentina have a great chance of World Cup success.
"We know that we have a great team, but each match has to be played," he contnued.
"There doesn't exist any easy matches, but I think that with the squad that we have, there are chances. It depends on us."
Despite missing almost the entire second half of the season, Aguero has scored 26 goals in 28 games for the Citizens, and his goal-scoring record has seen him linked with a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona.
However, the 25-year-old insists that he has no plans to leave City this summer and coach Manuel Pellegrini has told him he needs to win a Champions League title with the club first.
"He says to me that I can't leave without winning a Champions League," he added.
"That's the objective of each player in Europe."
