Local Brazilian media report that three Dutch players went out on Monday evening and only returned at 11:00 am on Tuesday morning.
The night-out of Wesley Sneijder, Dirk Kuyt and Nigel de Jong reportedly caused a major uproar in the Netherlands.
Dutch media and fans had been sceptical about the choice of the Netherlands’ team hotel, which is close to Brazil’s famous Ipanema beach.
So far, Dutch players had been mingling with fans, local and tourists at the beach, turning them into the second favourite team of many locals.
However, the latest reports are surely not what the Dutch federation had in mind when choosing the location for their team hotel.
As expected, they were very quick to deny the reports of an 11:00 am return and said the players had a free Monday evening.
The Netherlands will start their World Cup campaign against defending champions, Spain, on Friday, 13 June.
