After their 3-1 defeat to Brazil in the 2014 World Cup opening match, there was an explosion of emotions by furious Croatian players, who caused havoc by trashing their dressing room at the Arena Sao Paulo.
According to ESPN Brazil, cleaners reported that a table had been broken as well as objects on the wall, which meant an extra hours’ work to sort out the mess left behind.
In an interview with Radio Bandeirantes, the ex-Corinthians President, Andres Sanchez, the official in charge of the venue, said, “Croatia made a big mess. They left a lot of water on the floor and down the passage.”
Croatian captain, Darijo Srna, didn’t hide his frustration when passing journalists after the match nor did their Brazilian-born midfielder Sammir.
“I’m very upset,” Srna said.
“The referee wasn’t on the same level as the game. There were many mistakes, the penaltly that didn’t exist and I think Neymar should have been given a red card.”
After watching the replay, Sammir summed up his countries feelings, “There was a lot of anger against the ref, it was definitely not a penalty.”
