With Brazil superstar Neymar having been heavily criticised for his behaviour at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia so far, Ronaldo Nazario has now addressed the matter.
Many have accused the 26-year-old of attempting to con referees at the World Cup, during which many feel he has gone to ground too easily at times.
Neymar was slammed by fans after Brazil's first game in the tournament, and he has been the subject of conversations ever since. His teammates and manager Tite have defended his antics, while even Diego Maradona has found his behaviour amusing.
Selecao icon Ronaldo Nazario, however, believes the criticism Neymar has been getting is unfair, and feels that match officials should do more to protect him.
"We have to be more technical in our comments and not like punters in a bar," he said, according to NDTV.
"Football is interpreted in many different ways and there are many opinions. Neymar uses his mobility to defend himself from the bumps and hits that are dished out to him.
"The referees have given him little protection. He is a great talent. When I was repeatedly targeted with violent actions, I felt that I was treated unjustly.
"The criticism is stupid and the response that he is providing for the national team is marvellous. We still haven't seen the best of him."
Neymar has scored two goals at the 2018 World Cup so far, and will be looking to add to his tally when Brazil meet Belgium in the quarter-finals on Friday night.
