World Cup 2018

How England Could Line Up At The World Cup

It has been 52 years since England last lifted the FIFA World Cup, and while they are not the favourites to do so in 2018, many feel Gareth Southgate's men might surprise in Russia. Here is how the Three Lions could line up at the tournament.

Having been drawn in Group G alongside Belgium, Tunisia and Panama, the English are expected to make it to the knockout stage of the competition.

Southgate, a former England international himself, is expected to adopt a 3-5-2 formation for the tournament, but may shift to a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 depending on the situation.

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is expected to be his country's No. 1 in Russia. The 24-year-old has made only three appearances for his national side so far, but seems to be the preferred choice.

Southgate is expected to play with a back three, and it is likely that Manchester City duo Kyle Walker and John Stones will be partnered with Chelsea stalwart Gary Cahill.

Many believe the Three Lions will compete with a five-man midfield, with Manchester United wing-back Ashley Young and Tottenham Hotspur's Kieran Trippier expected to operate down the left and right flanks, respectively.

Spurs attacking midfielder Dele Alli will most likely partner Red Devils midfielder Jesse Lingard in the middle of the park, with Eric Dier behind them as their defensive cover.

How Portugal Could Line Up At The World Cup

There is no doubt that England captain Harry Kane will lead the line in Russia, and is likely to partner up with the Citizens' Raheem Sterling.
