The international football calendar will have to be adapted to accommodate the tournament, which will be played in eight newly-built stadiums.
So far, one stadium has been fully redeveloped, while seven others are under "various stages of construction", but are set to be completed "well before the tournament begins on 21 November 2022", according to the Qatar Organising Committee.
The new arenas will impress with high-tech cooling systems, while the Ras Abu Aboud Stadium becoming the first ever fully demountable and reusable venue in FIFA World Cup history.
