With the 2022 FIFA World Cup kicking off on this day four years from now, here is an overview of the futuristic stadiums planned for the tournament in Qatar.

With the World Cup in 2022 starting on 21 November, it will be the first edition of the global showpiece to be played in November and December.
The international football calendar will have to be adapted to accommodate the tournament, which will be played in eight newly-built stadiums.
So far, one stadium has been fully redeveloped, while seven others are under "various stages of construction", but are set to be completed "well before the tournament begins on 21 November 2022", according to the Qatar Organising Committee.

The new arenas will impress with high-tech cooling systems, while the Ras Abu Aboud Stadium becoming the first ever fully demountable and reusable venue in FIFA World Cup history.
