The AC Milan legend made 141 appearances for the Brazil national team between 1990 and 2006, winning the World Cup twice and finishing as a runner-up once.

Asked to name his greatest Brazil XI in history by The Guardian, Cafu started off by choosing the iconic Claudio Taffarel in goal instead of his former Milan and Selecao colleague Dida.

At left-back, Cafu selected Roberto Carlos, who "played at a high level for many years, with the same quality and intensity, whether defending or attacking. He was a giant. I have never seen a shot as powerful as his. He had a missile in his leg!"

The two centre-backs he chose were Lucio and Aldair, while at right-back he named his predecessor, Carlos Alberto, who won the FIFA World Cup in 1970.

Former Roma midfielder Falcao was selected in central midfield, and Cafu chose Rivaldo as the man he would play behind the striker, saying he "was a genius. Come on! It was so wonderful to see him with the ball. He played with the same style as Falcao. Rivaldo was brilliant."

On the left wing, Cafu snubbed Neymar for the legendary Rivellino, while Zico was named on the right wing, although he did play most of his career more centrally.

Unsurprisingly, Ronaldo Nazario was named as one of the strikers, partnering Pele, who is widely considered one of the greatest footballers of all time.

Speaking about Pele, Cafu called him "the athlete of the century, he scored more than 1 000 goals, and won the World Cup three times. He was complete. I don't need to say anything more. Pele is Pele. No one can beat him."

I never agree to this type of squad that runs across different generations. Each era must have its best 11, then we know what we are talking about. The 1978 Brazil team was the best ever squad, you can exclude the likes of Jazinho, Carlos Alberto, etc. So, it makes it hard to do what Cafu is doing. Too many left out. Romario for one.
