With the Selecao being one of the favourites to lift this year's trophy, the loss of Paris Saint-Germain right back Dani Alves will be a big one, despite having the likes Danilo who could deputise for the former FC Barcelona star, according to Sky Sports. The PSG fullback picked up a knee injury in the final of the Coupe de France and will not be fit in time for the showpiece.
Although Germany is one nation that does not lack quality or depth in their national ranks, they will be without the services of Borussia Monchengladbach captain Lars Stindl. The striker played a vital role in his country's 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup campaign, but will sadly miss out on Russia 2018 due to a knee injury, as per the BBC.
France international Laurent Koscielny suffered a torn Achilles tendon in the second leg of Arsenal's Europa League semi-final against Atletico Madrid, and was ruled out of the World Cup a few hours after the incident, according to talkSPORT. The veteran centre back has been a frequent name in France’s squad and will be sorely missed by Les Bleus.
Others who are set to miss out on the tournament, according to various reports, include Jakob Johansson (Sweden), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (England), Joe Gomez (England), Danilo Pereira (Portugal) and Youssef Msakni (Tunisia).
