England will be looking to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup for the first time in 28 years when they take on Sweden this afternoon.
The two sides will enter into the last eight encounter fully aware that victory for either nation will take them a step closer towards World Cup glory.
The last time Sweden reached the semi-finals was in USA 1994 where they finished third while England last made it into semi-finals in Italy 1990.
The Swedes showed mental fortitude to beat the fancied Switzerland 1-0 in the last 16 encounter and will certainly relish the underdog tag with the ambition of causing another upset.
Similarly, the Three Lions showed nerves of steel to overcome a stubborn Colombia side 4-3 on penalties after the South Americans equalised deep in stoppage time making it 1-1 in their last 16 tie.
Gareth Southgate’s charges also overcame a mental hurdle that has seen England always falter in penalty shoot-outs in major competitions.
In head-to-head statistics, the two nations are inseparable. They have met 23 times with seven wins apiece while nine meetings have been drawn.
Here's how they line up:
Sweden: Olsen, Lindelof, Granqvist, Augustinsson, Krafth, Larsson, Ekdal, Forsberg, Claesson, Berg, Toivonen.
England: Pickford, Maguire, Stones, Walker, Trippier, Young, Henderson, Alli, Lingard, Sterling, Kane.
