2018 World Cup
Result: Serbia 0-2 Brazil
Date: 27 June 2018
Venue: Otkrytie Arena
Brazil secured their passage into the knockout phase at the 2018 World Cup after defeating Serbia 2-0 in their final Group E clash.
Selecao coach Tite named the same starting line-up that secured the win over Costa Rica as Roberto Firmino and Douglas Costa remain on the bench, despite their impact in the last game.
Ten minutes into the match, the South Americans were dealt a blow as Marcelo was forced off with an injury and replaced by Felipe Luis.
Despite the loss of Real Madrid full-back, the Brazilians continued to push forward and they went close to scoring on 25 minutes but Vladimir Stojkovic produced a good save to deny Neymar from close range.
Serbia's resistance eventually broke on 35 minutes as Philippe Coutinho's well-weighted pass found Paulinho, who lifted the ball over Stojkovic to put Selecao ahead.
The Serbians, meanwhile, had no response for Brazil as they struggled to carve out chances in the final third, with goalkeeper Alisson enjoying a quiet opening 45 minutes.
Selecao managed to carve out an opening 10 minutes into the second stanza, with Coutinho releasing Neymar through on goal, however, the Paris Saint-Germain star could only fire straight at Stojkovic.
Serbia did manage to apply some pressure in the second half, although their finish was not up to par as Mitrovic squandered two chances after the hour mark.
The second goal for Brazil eventually arrived after 68 minutes as Thiago Silva lost his marker before glancing home a header at the near post.
With Brazil comfortably leading, Tite opted to introduce the likes of Fernandinho and Renato Augusto for the final 20 minutes of the match.
The five-time world champions managed to see out the remaining stages of game with relative ease as they ran out 2-0 winners to seal top spot in the group.
Following Switzerland's draw to Costa Rica, Serbia finish the campaign in third spot.
