Liverpool and Uruguay star Luis Suarez has successfully undergone knee surgery and hopes to still play in the World Cup.
According to the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF), Suarez injured his meniscus in Liverpool's final game of the season, in which he scored a league-best 31 goals.
The surgery took place yesterday, and all reports are that the operation was a success and doctors are hopeful Suarez will be healthy in time to play in Brazil.
"According to the report I received a while ago, they are optimistic that he can play the World Cup," said Uruguayan Football Association official Roberto Pastoriza.
Suarez himself had a positive message in an email he sent to Uruguayan journalist Federico Buysan
"I'm doing great and am ready to run. Thanks to everyone and stay calm, I'll make it," Suarez said in the email.
