UEFA Nations League

Result: Portugal 1-1 Poland

Date: 20 November 2018

Venue: Estádio Dom Afonso Henriques

Portugal finished the UEFA Nations League group stage phase unbeaten following a 1-1 draw with Poland on Tuesday evening.

The European champions had already secured top spot in the group following their goalless draw with Italy over the weekend, and were looking to end the campaign unbeaten.

Selecao did a lot of the attacking in the early stages of the encounter, but they were unable to mount any serious attempts at Jan Sommer's goal in the opening stages.

The hosts were eventually rewarded for the persistence in the 33rd minute when Andre Silva nodded home a cross from Renato Sanches.

Poland nearly hit back four minutes later with first meaningful attempt as Tomasz Kedziora rattled the crossbar with a powerful header.

After a quiet start to the second half, Portugal were reduced to ten men after Danilo Pereir was shown a straight red card, resulting in  penalty, which Arkadiusz Milik converted in the 66th minute.

Poland were looking to take advantage of the numbers game and they should have taken the lead after 70 minutes but  Grzegorz Krychowiak failed to hit the target from six-yards out.

The visitors managed to carve out a couple more chances as the half to drew to a close, with Damian Kadzior squandering two openings in the final ten minutes.

In the end, 1-1 was how the score remained as Portugal, who already secured top spot, finish unbeaten in the group.
