UEFA Nations League Final
Result: Portugal 1-0 Netherlands
Date: 09 June 2019
Venue: Estádio Do Dragão
The Dutch took control from the onset as the European champions adopted a more defensive approach, although Oranje struggled to carve out chances.
The game eventually opened up after the 25-minute mark as the highly-rated Bruno Fernandes forced Dutch goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen into a couple fine saves.
Beranrdo Silva and Fernandes in particular were key to Selecao's dominance for the remainder of the second half, although they could only trouble Cillessen from distance.
At the other end, Portugal shot-stopper Rui Patricio barely had a save to make in the opening 45 minutes as the Dutch failed to carve out a single chance in the final third.
Portugal's pressure eventually paid off on the hour mark as Silva's cut-back found Gonçalo Guedes, who sent a fine low strike into the bottom corner.
The Dutch took control from then on as they went in search of an equaliser, but the Portuguese defence were well drilled after making a number of fine blocks.
Rui Patrico came to Portugal's rescue with seven minutes remaining by producing a superb reflex save to keep out Luuk de Jong's effort, which looked destined for the bottom corner.
In the end, Portugal were able to see out the remaining stages to secure the 1-0 win and the first ever Nations League title.
