Spurs Qualify For Europa Last 32 After Six-Goal Thriller

UEFA Europa League

Result: LASK 3-3 Tottenham Hotspur

Date: 03 December 2020

Venue: Linzer Stadion

Tottenham Hotspur secured qualification to the UEFA Europa League knockout stages after a 3-3 draw against LASK on Thursday evening.

Tanguy Ndombele, Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg and Heung-Min Son were the only Spurs survivors from the goalless draw at Chelsea on Sunday.

With just a point needed to qualify, Spurs were under immense pressure in the early minutes as Johannes Eggestein hit the front of the post from a curling shot outside the area.

LASK hit the post for the second time on the half-hour mark when Rene Renner landed onto a through ball from Thomas Golginger before unleashing from a promising position.

Peter Michorl gave LASK the lead on 41 minutes after nestling the bottom corner with a sweeping left-footed strike from outside the area following possession turnover from Matt Doherty.

Spurs responded in the final minute of the half as Gareth Bale tucked home from the penalty spot after Andres Andrade was flagged for sticking out an arm off a cross from Lucas Moura.

The LilyWhites took charge ten minutes in the second half as Son latched onto a ball through the middle to slot home from the right-side after running goal-wards.

Spurs were on course for a third goal on 63 minutes from a through ball towards Bale, but the latter passed responsibility to Son who couldn’t connect with the supply.

The visitors made two changes two minutes later in the form of Steven Bergwijn who replaced Ndombele and Moussa Sissoko setting in for Moura.

LASK were all square seven minutes from time when a diagonal ball picked out Eggestein who applied a near post finish after beating the offside trap.

Jose Mourinho’s side were behind for just a minute as Dele Alli restored their lead from the penalty spot after Bergwijn went down tumbling in the area.

However, LASK rescued a point in stoppage time when a curling strike from the edge of the area by Mamoudou Karamoko gave Joe Hart no chance, although the draw also sees Spurs advance to the next round.
