Lukaku's Hat-Trick Fires Everton Past Young Boys

UEFA Europa League - Last 32

Result: BSC Young Boys 1-4 Everton

Date: 19 February 2015

Venue: Stade de Suisse

A hat-trick from Romelu Lukaku inspired Everton to a 4-1 win over BSC Young Boys in their first leg Europa League Last 32 clash at Stade de Suisse.

The young Belgian forward came close to opening the scoring as early as the third minute, however his well placed header was saved by Yvon Mvogo.

Young Boys opened the scoring minutes later, as Hoarau was left in acres of space outside the area and curled home a wonderful effort into the bottom corner.

Mvogo came to the home side's rescue in the 15th minute, the shot-stopper pulled off two fine saves to keep out efforts from Lukaku and Ross Barkley in quick succession.

Lukaku was not to be denied in the 23rd minute, as he rose highest to head home Leighton Baines' cross from the left.

Everton then went ahead five minutes later courtesy of a close range finish from Seamus Coleman, after some impressive build-up play.

Roberto Martinez's side managed to add a third away goal in the 38th minute, as Lukaku turned home Gareth Barry's cross for his second of the game.

Everton continued their dominance in the second half and added a fourth in the 58th minute thanks to Lukaku's cheeky finish to complete his hat-trick.

Young Boys had the chance to reduce the deficit in the 63rd minute from the penalty spot but Hoarau managed to blast his spot-kick over the crossbar, while John Stones was sent off for the committing the foul in the box.

Despite being a man down, Everton managed to see out the rest of the game with ease and claimed an impressive first leg victory away from home.
