The 35-year-old is still recovering from a serious knee injury, and Mourinho had given United fans little hope of seeing him play before the turn of the year, despite re-signing for the club.

United will start their Champions League campaign against Basel on 12 September, before facing Benfica and CSKA Moscow.
Meanwhile, Chelsea's wantaway striker Diego Costa has not been included in Antonio Conte's official squad, despite appearing in the Blues' Premier League selection, which was announced over the weekend.
Liverpool's Nathaniel Clyne has been omitted from Jurgen Klopp's Champions League squad, which suggests his current injury is worse than first feared, while Tottenham Hotspur did not pick Vincent Janssen and Erik Lamela in their selection for the group stages.
