Griezmann Keeps Atleti's Last 16 Hopes Alive
CSKA Moscow 2-0 Benfica
CSKA Moscow managed to keep their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League alive with a 2-0 win over Benfica in Group A match at the Arena CSKA.
A first-half goal from Georgi Schennikov and a second-half own goal from Jardel handed CSKA Moscow their third win in Group A.
The result, combined with Manchester United’s 1-0 loss against Basel in the other group game, sees CSKA Moscow in third place on the standings with nine points.
United top the group with 12 points while Basel are in second place with nine points and a superior goal difference to CSKA Moscow.
Benfica are last in Group A with zero points and are unable to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.
Anderlecht 1-2 Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich managed to beat Anderlecht 2-1 in their UEFA Champions League, Group B match at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium in a match that had little consequence to the tournament.
Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring for the German side in the 51st minute before Sofiane Hanni levelled matters in the 63rd minute for Anderlecht.
Corentin Tolisso scored the winning goal for Bayern Munich in the 77th minute to hand them their fourth win in Group B.
The result sees Bayern in second place in the group on 12 points, three points behind leaders PSG.
Celtic are third with three points while Anderlecht are last with zero points with neither of the two able to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.
Atletico Madrid 2-0 AS Roma
Atletico Madrid kept their hopes of a place in the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League alive with a 2-0 win over a ten man Roma side in a Group C match at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Second-half goals from Antoine Griezmann and Kevin Gameiro handed Atletico Madrid the three points and their first win in Group C.
Roma did end the match with only 10 men when Bruno Peres was given his marching orders in the 83rd minute after receiving a second yellow card.
The result, combined with Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Qarabag in the other group game, leaves Roma in second place on the standings with eight points followed by Atletico Madrid in third with six points.
Chelsea top Group C with ten points while Qarabag are last with two points and unable to qualify for the Last 16 of the competition.
Sporting Lisbon 3-1 Olympiakos
Sporting Lisbon kept their hopes of a Last 16 spot in the UEFA Champions League alive with a 3-1 win over Olympiakos in a Group D match at the Estádio José Alvalade.
A brace from Bas Dost and a goal from Bruno Cesar handed Sporting only their second win in Group D.
The result, combined with Barcelona’s 0-0 draw against Juventus in the other group game, sees Sporting in third place on seven points which is only one point behind second placed Juventus.
Barcelona top Group D with 11 points while Olympiakos are last with one point and unable to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.
