UEFA Champions League

Starting XI: Real vs Dortmund

Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund will both look to end their recent struggles, while Cristiano Ronaldo is on the hunt for more UEFA Champions League records when the teams meet tonight – here is how the two sides will line up.

Los Blancos won the reverse fixture 3-1 in Dortmund, and have already secured qualification for the knockout stages. However, they cannot overtake Group H leaders Tottenham Hotspur, who sit three points ahead of the defending UCL winners and have a better head-to-head record.

Zinedine Zidane's side will still be keen to end their recent negative run, which has seen them win just three of their past eight games in all competitions. Dortmund's crisis, meanwhile, is much bigger than Real's and a defeat in tonight's clash could reportedly cost manager Peter Bosz his job.

The German side has only won three out of their past 14 games in all competitions and are winless in seven Bundesliga games – a run that has seen them drop from first to sixth spot.

All eyes will be on Ronaldo, who has scored only twice in La Liga so far this season, but already netted eight times in the previous five group stage games. If he were to score at least once against Dortmund tonight, he would become the first player in Champions League history to score in all six group stage games.

His own record for the most goals in the group stages stands at 11 strikes, and the Portuguese would need a hat-trick to equal this milestone from 2015/16.

Both teams have met six times in Madrid so far, and Los Blancos are still unbeaten at home against the German side, winning four of those matches and drawing twice.

Overall, Real have not lost a home game in the Champions League group stage since a 3-2 defeat to AC Milan in October 2009. Of the 24 group stage home games since, Los Blancos have won 21 and drawn three – two of them against Dortmund.

Borussia Dortmund: Bürki, Bartra, Subotic, Sokratis, Schmelzer, Sahin, Dahoud, Guerreiro, Kagawa, Pulisic, Aubameyang.
