Venue: Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán
Paul Pogba returned to action for Manchester United as they drew 0-0 with Sevilla in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last 16 tie.
Sevilla made a fast start after forcing David De Gea into a save from Luis Muriel’s long-range effort after four minutes.
The Premier League side were forced to an early substitution after Ander Herrera picked up an injury. Pogba took his spot in the 17th minute.
That didn’t affect their game though as they got slowly back into the thick of things, which saw Romelu Lukaku blast over the top following a fine passage of play in the 25th minute.
Angel Correa asked questions of De Gea after cutting in from the right, but he could only draw a comfortable save from the Spaniard two minutes later.
With the pressure increasing towards half time, Correa looked to beat De Gea in similar fashion to his earlier effort with a placement attempt at the far post.
De Gea stood against the home side once more a minute before the break when he expertly denied Steven Nzonzi from a corner kick.
The United shot-stopper followed it up with another mind-blowing reflex save that prevented Muriel from getting his name on the scoresheet with the head from point-blank range.
Lucas Vazquez curled over a free kick from the edge of the area in the 52nd minute, as the Spaniards continued their early pressure.
Clement Lenglet’s downward header was comfortably saved by De Ga moments later, as the game began to open up.
However, the amount of clear-cut chances dissipated and both sides were reduced to shots from range, albeit half-hearted attempts.
This forced the two sides to settle for a draw that will benefit the visitors in the bigger scheme of things ahead of the return-leg in three weeks time.
