Last 16, 2nd Leg
Full Time: PSG 1-3 Manchester United (3-3 on aggregate, Man United progress on the away goals rule)
Date: 6 March 2019
Venue: Parc des Princes
The result combined with PSG’s 2-0 win away from home in the first leg saw the game end 3-3 on aggregate which allows United to progress on the away goals rule.
It was the perfect start to the match for the English team when Romelu Lukaku pounced on a loose back pass from Thilo Kehrer and proceeded to round the keeper before slotting the into an empty net in the second minute, 1-0 (2-1 on aggregate).
PSG, though, were not going to sit back and controlled the flow of play thereafter. This allowed them to equalise ten minutes later as Kylian Mbappe broke into the right side of the box and squared for Juan Bernat to side-foot home from only a couple of yards out, 1-1 (3-1 on aggregate).
Another lapse in concentration on the half hour mark cost PSG again when Gianluigi Buffon spilled a long range shot from Marcus Rashford into the path of Lukaku and he duly tapped home from close range, 2-1 (3-2 on aggregate).
PSG started strong at the start of the second half and Angel Di Maria found the back of the net ten minutes after the restart, but the goal was not given because he was in an off-sides position.
Neither side created any significant scoring chances after that until the 84th minute when PSG squander a chance to wrap up the tie as Mbappe was denied in a one-on-one with David De Gea and then Bernat struck the post with rebound.
The French team were made to pay for that miss when a controversial decision by Referee Damir Skomina saw him award United a penalty in the 93rd minute after a VAR decision adjudged a PSG player to have handled the ball inside the box.
Marcus Rashford stepped up for United and converted from the penalty spot to hand his side a 3-1 win on the night and a place in the quarterfinals of the competition.
