Date: 27 September 2017
Venue: Parc de Princes
Goals by Dani Alves, Edinson Cavani and Neymar ensured a comfortable 3-0 victory for Paris Saint-Germain against Bayern Munich at the Parc de Princes.
Paris Saint Germain got off to the best possible start after a scintillating run by Neymar Junior from the wing set up Dani Alves in the Bayern Munich box. The fullback drilled the ball past the keeper to give the hosts a 1-0 lead after two minutes.
Bayern responded well after falling behind and got themselves well into the game. Javi Martinez found space outside the box and shot powerfully towards goal but he effort was well saved by Alphonse Areola.
PSG had the opportunity to double their lead after a swift counter attack led by Kylian Mbappe released Edinson Cavani but the striker pulled his shot wide of goal. The two linked up again and Cavani finished a lay off from Mbappe to double his side’s lead in fantastic fashion.
The Paris front three linked up again and Mbappe crossed for Neymar who set up Cavani but the forward scuffed his shot and couldn’t change the score line leaving it 2-0 at half time.
Bayern got a chance when Robert Lewandowski’s headed effort was cleared off the line by captain Tiago Silva. PSG retaliated immediately with a counter attack of their own but Neymar uncharacteristically shot way off the mark.
A strong run from Dani Alves saw PSG in attack with Mbappe in the thick of things again. The young forward glided past his marker before his cross was poorly dealt with by the Bayern defense and Neymar reacted quickest to poke home from close ranger to make it 3-0.
At 3-0 up the home team took their foot off the pedal and a disappointing attacking performance by Bayern Munich saw the score unchanged and all three points staying in Paris.
