Bayern On Cruise Control In 3-0 Victory

UEFA Champions League - Group F
Result: Olympiakos 3-0 Bayern Munich
Date: 16 September 2015
Venue: Stadion Maksimir
Bayern Munich started their UEFA Champions League campaign in fine style as they cruised past Olympiakos 3-0 on Wednesday.
The German giants should have been a goal to the good in the 27th minute when a skillful free-kick was sent towards Robert Lewandowski who headed on target, but Roberto and Siovas combined to pull off a last-ditch save on the line.
Die Roten came close again in the 35th minute. Costa provided the cross from the right flank and found Lewandowski at the far post, but the Polish striker couldn't get his shot past the goalkeeper.
On the stroke of half-time the visitors created another great opportunity when Thiago set it up perfectly for Alonso to pounce on from just outside 20 yards but the powerful effort went narrowly wide of the target.
Bayern deservedly found their breakthrough seven minutes into the second half, albeit fortuitously. Thomas Muller attempted to send a cross in towards the far post but instead saw the ball nestle in the top corner of the goal to put the visitors 1-0 up.
The points were secured in the last few minutes of the encounter as Mario Gotze and Muller added a goal each.
Gotze fired home from a tight angle in the 89th minute before Muller slotted a stoppage-time penalty, sending the keeper the wrong way to make it 3-0.
