Manchester United clinched top spot in Group A after goals from Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford secured a 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford.
In the fourth minute, Lukaku put Rashford through on goal but his effort crashed off the woodwork as United applied pressure.
Rashford was through on goal again in the 15th minute but this time he was denied by CSKA goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev.
United were the more dominant team and efforts from Luke Shaw and Lukaku in quick succession forced Akinfeev into saves that kept his side in the game.
CSKA scored on the stroke of halftime as an effort from Vitinho controversially deflected off Alan Dzagoev and into the back of the net to give the Russians a 1-0 lead going into the break.
The Russian keeper was called into action again in the 47th minute when he saved an effort from Rashford with the battle between the two players intensifying.
The home side managed to find that equaliser in the 64th minute through a finish on the stretch from Lukaku.
A minute later, the turnaround was complete when Juan Mata provided an assist for Rashford who finally got one over Akinfeev with the goal that gave United a lead for the first time in the game.
With the weekend’s Manchester-derby in mind, Jose Mourinho rang the changes, bringing in Alex Tuanzebe for his first UEFA Champions League appearance.
The remaining minutes saw the pace of the game drop as United seemed settled on their 2-1 lead which turned into victory over Moscow.
