Manchester City obliterated a hapless Schalke 7-0 in a UEFA Champions League last 16, second-leg tie for a 10-2 aggregate win on Tuesday.
The Citizens brought forth a healthy 3-2 first-leg lead, and were expected to roll over the struggling German outfit.
Sergio Aguero clipped the post as early as the 14th minute off Raheem Sterling’s low cross for the Citizens.
City were given a breakthrough when Jeffrey Bruma was adjudged to have fouled Bernardo Silva, thus conceding a penalty on 35 minutes.
Following confirmation from the Video Assistant Referee crew, the spot kick stood and Aguero made no mistake to send Ralf Fahrmann the wrong way, 1-0.
City took flight in big fashion, with Aguero threatening a second in the space of minutes but the Argentine shot tamely at Fahrmann.
City were two up on 38 minutes when Aguero calmly, from a pressure situation, finished from close-range following Ilkay Gundogan’s pass, 2-0.
It was three for the Citizens after Oleksandr Zinchenko set-up Leroy Sane to finish past an advancing Fahrmann on 42 minutes, 3-0.
Early in the second half, Schalke’s misery worsened when Raheem Sterling got onto a Sane ball for an emphatic finish on 57 minutes, 4-0.
Schalke were dejected to the core, and the English champions seized upon this to make it five with a top corner finish from Bernardo on 71 minutes, 5-0.
Youngster Phil Foden added a sixth seven minutes later when he rounded Fahrmann to slid in Sane’s assist, 6-0.
Gabriel Jesus put the hapless Germans out of their misery with a finish from the edge of the box in the 85th minute, 7-0 as City reach the quarterfinals in fine style.
