Aguero Hat-Trick Leads Red-Hot City To Victory

UEFA Champions League
Result: Manchester City 4-0 Monchengladbach
Date: 14 September 2016
Venue: Etihad Stadium
Manchester City were too strong for Monchengladbach on Wednesday night as they thrashed their visitors 4-0.
City made the ideal start to the clash as they took the lead after only eight minutes. Aleksandar Kolarov provided the cross and the main damage dealer Sergio Aguero easily beat Andreas Christensen to the ball before slotting it past Yann Sommer.
There was a big penalty shout in the 12th minute when Aguero was grappled to the ground by Tobias Strobl, but the official dismissed their claims.
The hosts were in the driving seat again a few minutes later as Fernandinho got on the end of Jesus Navas's low ball into the box, but he shot wide of the post.
The chances kept coming but this time it was at the other end where Andre Hahn connected with a headed effort at goal from a corner kick but his attempt went inches wide.
The Blues were awarded a penalty in the 27th minute when Ilkay Gundogan was clipped in the box by Christoph Kramer. Aguero took the spot-kick and converted it with confidence for a 2-0 lead.
The lead was maintained until the half-time break, after which the chances kept coming for Pep Guardiola's charges. An initial strike from Navas was stopped by Sommer, but it fell for Raheem Sterling who teed up Aguero, but his shot was straight at the gloveman.
City continued to dominate the encounter and found their third of the night in the 77th minute. Sterling provided the through-ball and Aguero did the rest, rounding Sommer before tapping it in to complete his brace.
In stoppage time Kelechi Iheanacho netted a fourth for the hosts after brilliant individual skill from Leroy Sane who set up the goal.
