Man City Cruise Into Champions League Quarters

UEFA Champions League
Result: Man City 0-0 (3-1 agg) Dynamo Kyiv
Date: 15 March 2016
Venue: Etihad Stadium
Manchester City eased into the Champions League quarterfinals 3-1 on aggregate after playing out a goalless draw with Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday.
The clash started positively for the hosts but the mood at the Etihad soon took a dive as the home captain Vincent Kompany pulled up with the recurring hamstring injury which has needled him for so long. He was replaced by Eliaquim Mangala.
Despite needing three goals to get past City and into the quarterfinals, Dynamo showed a lack of attacking ambition and produced few chances in the first half, which suited City who took a 3-1 lead into the second leg.
There was a moment of brilliance from Sergio Aguero which almost provided the catalyst for the opening goal in the 56th minute when he beat no less than three challenges before being clipped by Garmash.
The foul gave Yaya Toure's educated boot a chance to break the deadlock. The Ivorian's free kick looked destined to find the top corner of the goal as he whipped it over the wall, but it went just over the bar.
Jesus Navas came agonisingly close to scoring the first goal just past the hour mark. Toure led an attack for City and passed it on for Navas who unleashed a strike aimed at the bottom corner of the goal, but instead the attempt rattled the post.
The visitors had a late chance to get a consolation goal but Joe Hart made a solid save to deny Iakovenko.
