Atletico came into the game as favorites after winning the first-leg tie 2-0 in Spain three weeks ago.

Diego Simeone had to do without Thomas Partey and Diego Costa, who were both suspended while Alex Sandro and Mattia De Sciglio were not in the squad for Bianconeri due to suspension and injury respectively.

Giorgio Chiellini had the ball in the back of the net for Juventus as early as the fourth minute but the goal was ruled out for a foul by Cristiano Ronaldo as the officials, in consultation with the Video Assistant Referee, decided that the Portuguese player had kicked the ball out of the Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak’s hands before Chiellini blasted it home.

The visitors were sitting deep in their own half, inviting pressure from Massimiliano Allegri’s charges and they finally paid for it as Ronaldo broke the deadlock for the Old Lady in the 27th minute with a powering header at the back post, following a cross from Federico Bernardeschi, 1-0 (1-2 on aggregate).

Ronaldo nearly doubled the lead for the hosts two minutes before the break from almost a similar move as the first goal, leaping highest at the back post to connect with a cross but this time his effort went slightly wide.

The first stanza ended with Juventus leading 1-0 but Atletico were 2-1 ahead on aggregate.

Ronaldo made it 2-0 for Allegri’s men four minutes after the break with a towering header inside the box that crossed the line by inches before Oblak was able to save it. The goal was given thanks to goal-line technology, 2-0 (2-2 on aggregate).

Simeone made his first change three minutes before the hour, with Thomas Lemar making way for Angel Correa to take the game to Juventus, while Allegri refreshed his side in the 67th minute as Paulo Dybala came on for Leonardo Spinazzola.

Atletico were growing in the game with a quarter of an hour remaining after a shaky start. The Old Lady, though, refreshed their attack ten minutes before time even more as young forward Moise Kean replaced veteran striker Mario Mandzukic.

The Bianconeri were awarded a penalty with six minutes remaining after Correa pushed down Bernardeschi inside the box and Ronaldo made no mistake from the penalty spot, 3-0 (3-2 on aggregate).
