Chelsea finished second in Group C after playing to a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid, who have been dumped out of the UEFA Champions League.
Diego Simeone's charges had a bright start in the opening 10 minutes as they pinned the hosts back in their own half.
Alvaro Morata turned well on the edge of the box in the 19th minute but his right-footed strike sailed just wide of the upright
Victor Moses carved out a chance in the 27th minute as his cross found Morata inside the box but the Spaniard's shot was saved by Jan Oblak.
Davide Zappacosta nearly sent the Blues ahead five minutes before halftime with a stunning half-volley but Oblak was equal to the task.
Saul Niguez found the breakthrough for the visitors 10 minutes into the second half with a header at the far post following a corner, 0-1.
Pedro was introduced in the 65th minute in place of Tiemoue Bakayoko as the Blues were now chasing the game.
Chelsea eventually found an equaliser in the 75th minute when Stefan Savic deflected Eden Hazard's cross into his own net.
Antonio Conte's side pushed for the winner in the closing minutes, but they were unable to byasss the Atletico again.
