Bore-Draw Sees Bayern Into Champions League Semis

UEFA Champions League

Report, Bayern Munich 0-0 Sevilla (2-1 agg.)

Date: 11 April 2018

Venue: Allianz Arena

Bayern Munich moved into the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, despite a 0-0 draw against Sevilla in their quarter-final second leg match at Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.

The result, combined with Bayern’s 2-1 win in the first leg, sees them through on aggregate.

Bayern started the better of the two teams, with the first chance on goal in the fifth minute when Arjen Robben dribbled his way past two defenders before unleashing a ferocious 20-yard shot which went inches over the target.

Ever Banega was gifted a golden opportunity to score for Sevilla in the 12th minute when he received the ball unmarked inside the area, but he blasted over from close range.

In the 26th minute, Sevilla were on the attack again when Sergio Escudero picked-up an inch-perfect pass into the box, but with just the keeper to beat he fired wide.

Ten minutes later goalkeeper David Soria came to the rescue of Sevilla when he produced a fantastic acrobatic save to tip a shot from Franck Ribery over the target.

The half ended 0-0.

Ten minutes into the second half, Soria was at his best once more, this time denying Thomas Muller in a one-on-one.

On the hour mark, Sevilla were bitterly unlucky not take the lead when Joaquin Correa met a cross into the box, but his header struck the crossbar.

Bayern shut up shop at the back and took the sting out of the game with some methodical possession football.

Sevilla threw players forward in the final 10 minutes of the match but they could not break a resilient Bayern defence.

Instead, the match ended on a very sour note for Sevilla when Joaquin Correa received a straight red card for a horrible tackle.

The match ended 0-0 as the Bavarians advanced to the final four, having won 2-1 on aggregate.
