Date: 29 September 2015
Venue: Allianz Arena
Robert Lewandowski continued his red-hot form for Bayern Munich as they thrashed Dinamo Zagreb 5-0 in a UEFA Champions League clash.
Joshua Kimmich had a header go just a bit too high not more than two minutes into the encounter as the hosts dominated the early exchanges in search of an early lead. Bayern were looking great on the ball and Jerome Boateng had a shot well saved in the 9th minute before Robert Lewandowski’s effort was well kept out in the bottom corner two minutes later.
It was only a matter of time before Douglas Costa grabbed the opener in the 12th minute, handing the hosts a 1-0 lead. They continued to dominate, putting together some nice passing moves, and were rewarded in the 20th minute with a Lewandowski strike, 2-0.
Less than five minutes later, Mario Gotze had made it 3-0 with a fine finish of his own. A further three minutes later, it was Lewandowski that grabbed a brace to take the score to 4-0 within the opening 30 minutes, leaving Zagreb with a mountain to climb.
The Bundesliga champions were looking a class above their opponents but the Croatian outfit managed to hold on until half-time.
The hosts continued where they had left off after the restart, and ten minutes in, Lewandowski completed his hat-trick, also taking the score to 5-0. They continued to look good, but Soudani almost pulled one back for the visitors in the 62nd minute.
“Lewa” had another opportunity before the 70th minute, followed by efforts from Junior Fernandes and Angelo Henriquez which did not cause too much ttrouble for Bayern.
It seemed Bayern had settled for the 5-0 win as they held on for the maximum points.
