Atletico Madrid knocked out UEFA Champions League champions Barcelona 3-2 on aggregate after a 2-0 win in the quarter-finals on Wednesday night.
Barca led the tie 2-1 after the first leg, but the hosts scored twice in the second to overturn the deficit and advance.
The Rojiblancos started the game positively and Antoine Griezmann came close to opening the scoring for the hosts in the eighth minute. A diagonal ball into the box found the Frenchman at the near post but his header was straight at Ter Stegen.
At the other end of the pitch Javier Mascherano threatened the Atletico goal as he exploited some space 30 yards out, but his strike went straight down Gabi's throat.
Atletico deservedly took the lead in the 36th minute after doing well to keep Barca's chances down to a minimum. Saul crossed from the right and Griezmann was on hand again to head it, and on this occasion it beat the goalkeeper at his near post.
Shortly before the break the hosts came at the Catalans again with Carrasco bursting forward on the break. The winger used his pace to get to the edge of the area before drilling a shot that was saved by Ter Stegen.
In the 54th minute Atleti came within inches of making it 2-0. A corner kick found Lucas who sent it back across goal. The effort seemed to beat Ter Stegen but it hit the woodwork instead of the back of the net.
Luis Enrique's charges put pressure back on their hosts with Luis Suarez gaining possession in the box. He turned well to get a shot away from 15 yards but it was straight at Oblak.
Barcelona enjoyed more of the possession but just couldn't find a way through a very well organised Atletico who defended their lead with determination.
Simeone's men secured their passage into the semi-finals in the 88th minute when Griezmann completed his brace from the penalty spot after Andres Iniesta handled the ball in the box.
