Atletico Sweep Astana Aside 4-0

UEFA Champions League

Result: Atletico 4-0 Astana

Date: 21 October 2015

Venue: Estadio Vicente Calderón

Atletico Madrid had too much quality for Astana as they strolled to a 4-0 victory in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.

The deadlock was broken in the 23rd minute by the hosts. Gabi took a corner kick and played it short to Carrasco who sent it to the near post where Saul Niguez was on hand to flick it into the back of the net.

Atletico doubled their lead only six minutes later as Jackson Martinez collected the ball with his back to goal before shaking off his marker and sending a deflected strike into the corner of the goal.

The Astana Keeper pulled off a great save in the 39th minute when a cross to the front post found Martinez who directed a diving header on target.

Rojiblancos extended their advantage to three goals in the 63rd minute. Gabi won the ball and surged forward before squareing for Oliver Torres to dink the ball over the keeper.

The embattled visiting keeper, Nenad Eric, had to make another save in the 78th minute when Fernando Torres set his sights on his 100th Atletico goal.

The win was capped off in the 89th minute as Denis Dedechko put the ball into his own goal after a dangerous cross from Torres.
