UEFA Champions League
Result: PSG 1-1 Chelsea
Date: 17 February
Venue: Parc de Princes
Chelsea came away with a 1-1 draw in the first game of their UEFA Champions League last-16 clash with Paris Saint Germain on Tuesday night.
The Blues opened the scoring in the 36th minute as Branislav Ivanovic hit the back of the PSG net. John Terry crossed from the left and Gary Cahill flicked it on for Ivanovic to nod home the finisher.
Maxwell started an attack for the Parisians in the 54th minute as he overlapped Matuidi before crossing for Edinson Cavani who found himself in space in the Chelsea and directed it into the back of the net with a header.
PSG put massive pressure on the Chelsea defence on the hour mark as Zlatan Ibrahimovic cut through the centre of the defence to combine with Lavezzi. His initial strike was saved the leg of Thibault Courtois before the Argentine's attempt was cleared by Azpilicueta.
Cavani combined well with Matuidi in the 80th minute to create a chance for the hosts. The Uruguayan surged into the Blues area, beating Matic before curling a shot just wide of the Chelsea goal.
PSG came agonisingly close to netting the winner in stoppage time but Courtois pulled off a great save as he kept out a headed effort from Ibrahimovic to ensure the teams ended matters all square.
