Late De Bruyne Strike Hands City Win

UEFA Champions League

Group D

Full Time: Manchester City 2-1 Sevilla

Date: 21 October 2015

Venue: Etihad Stadium

Kevin De Bruyne netted in the final seconds of the match to hand Manchester City a 2-1 win over Sevilla in a UEFA Champions League, Group D match at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.

The result sees City up to second in the group with six points from three games, one point behind leaders Juventus while Sevilla are in third place with three points.

The home team started the better of the two sides when Wilfried Bony got on the end of a pass in the ninth minute, but saw his first time shot brilliantly saved by Sergio Rico from close range.

In the 17th minute Sevilla came close to scoring when a 24-yard free-kick from Evgen Konoplyanka struck the right-hand post.

On the half hour mark Sevilla found the back of the net when Evgen Konoplyanka latched onto a pin-point pass into the box from Victor Vitolo and finished with aplomb, 1-0.

Six minutes later City drew level when Sevilla’s Adil Rami accidently turned the ball into his own net, 1-1.

Neither side could find another goal before the break.

Ten minutes into the second half Kevin Gameiro met a cross into the box with a strong header, but his attempt sailed inches over the City crossbar.

In the 72nd minute Kevin De Bruyne squandered a great goal-scoring chance when he beat the keeper, but saw his shot cleared off the line by a defender.

In the dying minutes of the match Yaya Toure nearly won it for City when his thunderous long range effort was superbly saved by the keeper.

Nonetheless, City continued to push forward and found a winner in the 93rd minute when Kevin De Bruyne produced a great solo run into the box and made no mistake with just the keeper to beat, 2-1.
