Champions Bayern & Chelsea Book UCL Last Eight Berths

Bayern Munich 2-1 Lazio (6-2 agg.)

Bayern Munich booked their spot in the quarter-finals afte a 2-1 win in the last 16 second-leg at Allianz Arena.

After a 4-1 win in the first leg, Bayern made three changes from their win over Werder Bremen, as goalkeeper Alexander Nubel was given a run alongside recalls for David Alaba and Leroy Sane.

The Bavarians were not in a rush in the early stages, knocking the ball around with purpose and they were awarded a penalty in the 32nd minute after Vedat Muriqi fouled Leon Goretzka inside the box.

Robert Lewandowski stepped up to take the spot-kick and slammed a low strike into the bottom corner, on the wrong side of shot-stopper Pepe Reina, making it 1-0 for Bayern.

The hosts were spirited coming from the break, with Lewandowski being denied the second goal by the base of the post in the 67th minute before Maxim Choupo-Moting eventually made it 2-0 for the German side in the 73rd minute with chip over Reina after a through ball by Alaba.

Marco Parolo pulled a goal back for Lazio in the last eight minutes with a header at the back post after a cross by Andreas Pereira, making 2-1 on the night and 6-2 on aggregate, as the Bavarians cruised to the quarter-finals.

Chelsea 2-0 Atletico Madrid (3-0 agg.)

Chelsea advanced to the quarter-finals after a 2-0 win  over ten-man Atletico Madrid at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues made five changes from the draw with Leeds United, two enforced as Jorginho and Mason Mount were suspended, Mateo Kovacic and Timo Werner were brought in as replacements while Kurt Zouma, Reece James and Marcos Alonso were also recalled.

The game was tight in the early stages, although Atletico had a penalty shout in the 27th minute after Cesar Azpilicueta pulled Yannick Carrasco inside the box in an off the ball incident but the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) stood with the on-field decision of no penalty after review.

Thomas Tuchel's got the breakthrough just before the break as Werner raced away from the half-way line after a through ball and played a square pass that was finished off by Hakim Ziyech to give them a 1-0 lead and a 2-0 lead on aggregate.

After struggling for most of the second half, Atletico were reduced to ten men in the last eight minutes after Stefan Savic was shown a straight red card for an elbow on Antonio Rudiger.

Emerson got the second goal for Chelsea deep in stoppage time with his first touch off the bench with a low strike across shot-stopper Jan Oblak, as Tuchel's men booked their spot in the quarter-finals with a 3-0 aggregate win.
