Liverpool were the big winners at the Uefa awards gala, while Lionel Messi also collected a prize and Cristiano Ronaldo went home empty-handed.

The four positional awards were introduced in 2016/17, and there were five players from champions Liverpool who were nominated across the different categories.
Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker won the Goalkeeper of the Season award following his displays for Liverpool and Brazil in 2018/19.
His teammate Virgil van Dijk was named Defender of the Season, while FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong won the award for the Midfielder of the Season for his fine performances with Ajax Amsterdam and the Netherlands.
Messi picked up the Forward of the Season accolade, replacing Ronaldo, who was nominated in the same category, as winner in this positional award.
While van Dijk also collected the main award as Uefa Men's Player of the Year, Lucy Bronze was named Women's Player of the Season, Eric Cantona won the Uefa president's award and Borussia Dortmund were awarded for their work against the far right.
